“Beat the Reaper”
July 21, 2009 at 8:26 am | Posted in Fiction | 3 CommentsBeat the Reaper is the first of what will undoubtedly be many books by Josh Bazell, who has somehow successfully blazed a trail between the territories of comedy and thriller.
You’ll know right away that the main character of Beat the Reaper works in the medical field. Two pages in, you’ll also know he’s not your average doctor. In no way will either of these facts prepare you for chapter 23, which I read with my jaw actually hanging open. Holy smoke! Don’t skip ahead, though. You won’t want to miss a word of this lightning-paced novel.

I haven’t read very many truly jaw-dropping books (a few, though: “The Master and Margarita”! Jaw-dropping!) but I’ll take your word for it. Or, rather, I’ll find out for myself.
